I love that you used the word dirty. It really seems fitting in contrast to the pure, hopeful, Son of God laying in that manger. So much didn't seem right then...so much doesn't seem right now. But this simplification is teaching me anew what this time is really for. And it's the first year that my girls have started to understand (or attempt to understand) what Jesus has done for us. They wanted to know if I was knitting Him a hat for His birthday present, and then launched right in to tell me how He came to take away their boo-boos and bad attitudes. It makes me glad to simplify, so that I can really try to teach them that it's not all about the presents. how very real and beautiful… it seems that enjoying the “usual” things about Christmas is out of reach for a lot of us this year, for various reasons.
