talking and running and seeing shark hearts.
Jessic! Come here! Ollie yelled, while standing in the surf.
And once I got to where he was, he pointed to something at his feet.
Shark heart, Ollie said, quite seriously.
I saw a picture of one in a book, he explained, and it’s the same thing.
And sure enough, it certainly did look like one.
Though, goodness knows I’m no expert.
Luckily I have a nephew that is an expert on shark hearts.
I nodded gravely and did what any self-respecting aunt would do: I made him smile and pose next to the shark heart. Cause yes, that’s what you call a photo op.
And today we all took off our shoes and let the sand work its magic on our toes.
This was after I went on a run with my niece, Lyric, though. We had quite a talk, too. I asked her if she had any questions about what has happened to me. She told me that she actually knows a lot about it. And that I deserve better. No arguments here. It was a good conversation and the termĀ turdly turd may have been thrown around, but I cannot quite remember. I do remember that we laughed, however. And once we stopped laughing we talked about forgiveness and how important it is and how bitterness turns a life ugly eventually.
And nobody has time for that, I think.

My name is Jessica and this is a nice, quiet space that I like to cram with words.

i got all the time in the world.
dear jenna, I love you.
I really, really, really love that you are enjoying yourself. Latshaw WEST is wonderful! The kids are so big and adorable! Keep enjoying your time, and sharing the picture! They are fantastic. If there was a like button under all of them, I would click it, and you would get annoying e-mails about how I “liked” all of them!
Love you.
oh hahahahahahaha those”like” emails wouldn’t annoy me at all!!!
this just makes me so happy. im so glad that you guys are together and it is just is such a healing place to be..filles with meaningful and healing times:)
thanks, Sarah! it is a lovely and healing time here:)
Jess –
I love that you took the time to ask your niece if she understood what was going on and that you talked about forgiveness instead of retribution. It again shows your strength and your grace and it is so true that he had to be a turdly turd to not appreciate all that he had in you. You do deserve and will find better!
Um, and shark heart? Is it really? Because I have to say, what is big enough out there to tear the heart out of a shark and if there is something out there that can do that maybe you should stick to the sand and stay out of the water?!
first of all, what kind words you said…and second of all, I have no idea if it is truly a shark heart and if it is, you bring up a good–albeit, rather terrifying!–point. Ollie seemed very confident that it was, though…;-)
A. Turdly turd is hilarious. B. Love the shark heart pic with Ollie. He is so cute. I can’t wait to see those two.
A). Agreed, and we laughed accordingly and b). He really is one of the cutest little guys ever.
That shark heart thing is both the grossest and coolest thing. Did you touch it? I think I would have had to!
I didn’t touch it…I had doubts about the sanitary repercussions of doing that…:-/
You’re such a good aunt. Because, 1) shark hearts. and 2) Nice talks about life and forgiveness. Love.
Thank you.
But I can’t really take credit for the shark heart…and it took two of us to have that talk:)
Well, the shark heart thing makes you a good aunt because if it were my [imaginary] nephew, I don’t think I would be taking pictures. I think I would be running away from the shark heart. Though I can’t really figure out why I would be. It’s not like it could do anything I guess.
right, there is comfort in knowing that the shark heart was by itself. Now, if it were still inside the shark–and beating!–I think I’d be running away from it too!
