This morning we went kayaking.

Well, kind of.

Apparently my mom watched a three hour tutorial on the art of kayaking in preparation for this particular beach trip, but I simply saw the kayak. Got in it. And then started paddling.

And once I stopped going in circles, it was pretty fun.

Really fun, actually.

I felt like a pro.

Except that I didn’t get paid.

And I didn’t go all that fast.

And I didn’t look as rad as Ollie.

Or as chill as Eli.

And some of us went fishing.

With more…standard bait this time. The first day we got here, my brother Josh went fishing in the bay behind our house and, not able to find any normal fish fare, he decided to bait the fish hook with a veggie burger.

I don’t think he caught anything. Perhaps these fish are not vegetarian.

And Jenna and I have been kicking around together quite a lot.

We’re sleeping in little twin beds that are pushed right next to each other. And at six o’clock this morning, I guess I had draped my leg over her ankle. You know, just feeling the sisterly love. She abruptly woke me up by shaking my leg off like it was a snake. And then she asked, “Did that hurt your feelings?” in a manner that sounded more irritated than actually caring if my feelings were hurt. I guess I just rolled over, but I don’t really remember the altercation. Jenna had to fill me in on the details much later in the day, after I had forgotten about the whole thing anyway.

Tonight I will try to keep my legs to myself.

For Jenna’s sake.

And yes, our shades are rockin’ and man, I love those colors all bright and shiny and next to each other like that.

Oh, and the ocean! It’s a dream. Okay, so I got wiped out once today, but it was my fault, it really was. I was too close to the “death zone,” as my nieces like to refer to that part of the ocean where the waves break upon the shore. So I learned my lesson and got out a little further and it was fun and work, jumping over all of those waves, but mostly just fun.

And there you go, it was a good one, this Monday.
