sledventures.

I’m still cold.
I’m still a little wet (from. the. snow.).
My elbow is a little sore.
But whoa, that was fun. I mean, fun. Genuine, pure fun. The kind that involves climbing trees, trying to outfall the snow as it falls all around you and you fall into piles of it already on the ground, laughing at each other but in the best way possible, and even exploring an old house. In the dark. It was all Blair Witch in there, trust me. But don’t worry, I didn’t go into the corner. Because nobody puts baby in the corner.
Any other pop references you’d like me to use?
But I haven’t yet mentioned the main point of our excursion. And I have to build it up a little cause the name for it is that good. My friend Shane made it up, and so you know, credit where credit is due. Ready?
Tonight we went on a sledventure.
Uh-huh.
And yeah, it was exciting.
And yeah, it involved the best subaru ever.
Sometimes we sat inside of it.
And sometimes we sat outside of it.
On a sled.
That was connected to the car.
And I have to say that I really enjoyed holding onto the reins.
Well, they told me it was actually called a toehold, but come on. My toe was not involved. And I might as well have said giddyup, those things I held onto for dear life were so much like reins.
I learned that I am not exactly a natural when it comes to sledventuring. I am, however, very good at falling off of the sled. I also learned that elbow pads are not a bad idea.
Shane, Jimmy, Zach, and Jenna at least broke the double digit mark in terms of the speed at which they sledventured. Some of them even hit 20 mph. I know, it’s impressive.
I topped off at 4.
4 miles per hour.

I don’t think I will be going to the Olympics for sledventuring any time soon.
And at one point we got stuck.
But we did have sleds.

And the guys got to it.
They might have even shoveled with a sign that they pulled out of the ground; I can’t quite remember, it all happened so fast.
But then a truck came by and asked if we needed a good tug out of the snow. Well, the truck didn’t actually ask that. That would have been cool, though. Or maybe scary. Or, most likely, a transformer. But the driver of the truck asked if we needed help and the guys told them in mock innocence, We just happen to have a toehold attached to the back of the car already…
So lucky.
The guys did a lot and even Jenna did a little by pushing but when I tried to help, I was only in the way. So I stood and shivered and watched and marveled at the way that life takes me by surprise again and again.

And tonight, it was totally in a good way.
