go for the gold jewelry!

I spent about an hour talking to my brother Jase and nephew Ollie on facetime tonight.
It was pretty hilarious.
Ollie and I have very similar hair right now.
Both in color and style.
Neither of us mind this, I think.
Doesn’t get much cooler than my nephew.
Also, Jase always likes to talk to me about the various guys in my life.
Or not in my life, as the case may be.
Tonight, we were talking about a particular guy, mostly joking around.
“But I highly doubt he’s a Christian, Jase,” I said.
“But he is Columbian,” I continued (as if that is a close second to being a Christian).
“Perfect,” Jase said. “So he’s probably Catholic.”
“Yeah! He does wear some gold jewelry,” I continued.
That’s a logic that makes no sense, but for some reason it seemed to me to support Jase’s theory of this guy being Catholic.
“Well, you already tried an “on-fire Christian”…and look where that landed you…”
He didn’t need to say anything else, because, all to well, we remember the horror of that. And sadly, it’s a lingering horror, still. But it’s getting smaller and smaller as blessed Time does her secret stealthy work of moving us past the horrors and leading us into gentler times. And before we even realize it, we’re there.
I hope, anyway.
“True, Jase…” I acknowledged.
“I say go for the gold jewelry!” he finished, enthusiastically.
Which made me laugh very hard.
And might just become my new favorite quote.
*in case you are my mom, please realize I am not about to date a guy based on his jewelry. In fact, if you are my mom, you realize that I am not about to date any guy at all right now. Not until things are good inside my little heart, and I am thinking no amount of jewelry on a guy is going to make that happen sooner than it should.

“Ladies night out, guys!” I announced, as Darby and I were about to leave tonight. “No, it’s not,” Ollie immediately disagreed. “Oh,” I said, “Why not?” Looking at me like I had taken momentarily leave of my senses, he said, “Cause Googie (Lyric) isn’t going!” “Good point, Ollie.” I said, and then proceeded to tell [...]

Today we went to the farmer’s market. Well, that’s what it’s called, but I didn’t see one farmer. And we happened to go when we were hungry, so we all combed the place for lunch. And see, I’ve only ever had two corn dogs in my life before. Three, if you count today. Cause I [...]

I started the day off right with a Texas-shaped belgian waffle. I wasn’t sure at first what shape they were going for. And yes, I know, that may have something to do with my poor grasp on basic geography. But see, I’ve only ever seen waffles shaped like well, waffles, or like Mickey Mouse. And [...]

I am going to write down some random things here, so bear with me. Today my sister and I saw a cute young Amish man. I write this down because this has never happened before. I am sure they exist–and I am now positive that they exist–but I had just never before actually witnessed it. [...]

One fun thing about leggings is that they have no pockets. Okay, so that’s not like the most fun thing, but bear with me. Because see, since they have no pockets, that means that I hand my camera over to other people to store in their pockets for the day. Thank God not all of [...]

Jessic! Come here! Ollie yelled, while standing in the surf. And once I got to where he was, he pointed to something at his feet. Shark heart, Ollie said, quite seriously. I saw a picture of one in a book, he explained, and it’s the same thing. And sure enough, it certainly did look like [...]

I saw this sign today. It’s rather hard not to see something that you are photographing, I think. And it has a point. One that I have been trying to live by for a while now. You know, digging into the moment. Realizing that life is happening whether or not it’s what I’d planned and [...]
