There are two wonderful things already in the works for tomorrow:
a). The lovely Mr. Stoltzfus, who my parents have hired to do some work on the house, will not be hammering hardwood floor directly above my room at 6:30 in the morning. This also means that I can wear my customary really short shorts while enjoying my cereal. I’ve been really making a stab at early morning modesty in deference to Mr. Stoltzfus’ Amish ways. Well, and the fact that he’s a guy who’s not related to me. That, too.
and also b). I do not have to wake up at 7:30 for rehearsal tomorrow. We are starting later in the morning and I am grateful. It’s gonna kind of actually feel like a Saturday. A sleep-in-kind of day. Well, sleeping in till 9, anyway. Which, compared to 7:30, is pretty darn nice.
Now, those are just the two wonderful things about tomorrow that I know about. Imagine all the good things that I don’t know about. All the good things that are hiding around the corner, crouching there and ready to say boo! in a very lovely and non-scary manner, of course. Although, I just imagined someone saying boo! to me in a lovely and non-scary manner, and it came across as rather creepy in the scenario I envisioned. Oh, well. My point is that there are good things that I still don’t know about. Some of them will be a part of tomorrow. Let’s just leave the whole BOO! part out of it, thanks.
*update* turns out Mr. Stoltzfus does not take Saturdays off, after all.

The grocer in my little mostly Spanish speaking neighborhood took in the rose I was holding and the smile on my face and said, “Well, you had a good day.”
And he was spot on.
Actually, this weekend has been quite dreamy. I got to sing in Philly on Friday, at the new World Cafe Live in Wilmington on Saturday, and New York City tonight. And two out of three of these gigs actually paid some money. Whoa. What’d I tell you–dreamy.
Here are some photos my dear friend Betsy took while I was playing the Bitter End tonight.
And I must say, I was floored by all the friends who came out. Floored and moved. It was a rather strange converging of my worlds, actually. There were some people calling me Jess, some calling me Cisne, and some calling me one of the X’s (that’s another story, but a good one).
But, seriously. Just look at the groups that were representing tonight:
- family
- church friends
- capoeira friends
- tour friends
- the broadway warm-up friends
- my ex
- random guy I met in a park
They all smooshed into the Bitter End and listened. It was–it was a lot. And I feel a lot of gratitude.
And I played a song on my ukelele.
Actually, I might get a little bit of work because of that. Someone who works at the bitter end gave me a number to call–some guy who builds high end ukeleles and needs girls to model/play them at trade shows.
“Call him. Tell him you’re the one Dan told him about–the pretty girl with the ukelele.”
Hilarious. Just hilarious.
He also said, “Rapping on the ukelele. That’s different, you know. Do that more often–cause that’s a real niche.”
Well, I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon.
Oh–and this is from my Paper Janes gig at the Queen Theater in Wilmington last night (David Norbut Photography).
We had a good old time there. What a venue to play. And what a difference it makes to have a sound engineer who cares.
And man, like I said, this weekend was dreamy. And beautiful.
Aside from theĀ hornet sting, that is.

Today we had a sleep over. All the east-coast little Latshaws came over. And so we had a photo shoot. Naturally. And also? In the past 24 hours I have made a peanut butter cake and a peanut butter pie. At this rate, I will be making peanut butter ice cream by the end of [...]

Oh, this weekend. It’s been grand and so chock full of song. We had a show on Friday night in Philly; it was oh-so-fun. I don’t know how many times I get asked if I am Jane, but I don’t mind it; I rather love that name, anyway. I get to be in a band [...]

This weekend was so full, I am not even quite sure where to begin. Maybe with a conversation: Me: “I wrote another song. And guess what? It’s NOT a love song.” (see, shane maintains that I only write love songs or love recovery songs or heartbreak songs) Shane: “What’s it about, then?” Me: “Um, it’s [...]

I mentioned to my friend Lindsay just last week that some of the best cupcakes in the world are in Georgetown. I mentioned that they are even worth a road trip. “Let’s do it!” she said, and she made good her word today. Because, you know, a lot of people talk about things and then [...]

Because I am tired, I will be giving you a post in cliff’s notes. Goodness, it’s Saturday, anyway. You probably have tons of better things to do than stay inside, in front of a computer, when the day is beckoning you to go and find out what all the hype about Saturday is anyway. And [...]

So my dear friend Christine agreed to take some pictures of us. Cause the paper janes needed some images to attach to our songs. And well, you couldn’t beat the weather this past Saturday. It was like March and June thought it’d be fun to trade lives for a day and I don’t think anyone [...]
